REFEREES
Referees play an integral role with all Touch Football competitions. They ensure our game is played in a fair, safe and enjoyable environment.
There are a number of benefits for individuals who choose to be a referee:
-
Keep fit and active
-
Learn new skills
-
Build confidence
-
Make friends
-
And yes, get paid!
There are opportunities to referee in competitions at Affiliate level from Redlands and Middle Green in the north toPalm Beach and South Tweed in the south. There are also opportunities to referee in tournaments run by SQBD and QLD Touch. Referees are allocated to games according to their experience and skill – so don’t be afraid to have a go.
If you are someone who doesn’t know much about touch football – no problem; SQBD Touch conducts Foundation (Level 1) referee courses throughout the year, as well as providing ongoing coaching and support at events, and several Affiliates provide this on a weekly basis.
Further, Touch Football Australia (TFA) has recently introduced an online learning Management System (eTrainu) for Referees called ‘The Nest’. The Nest will be the hub where referees can go to develop their knowledge of the game, book courses and track their certifications.
The development and support now being offered is second to none. So if you’re new to refereeing or perhaps you’ve been a referee in another sport, there is no better time to start your journey as a Touch Football Referee.

If you have completed any level of Coaching or Refereeing Accreditation before the introduction of The Nest, you’ll need to register that accreditation with TFA through completion of a Recognition of Prior Learning and Recognition of Current Competency (RPL/RCC) survey.
The RPL/RCC surveys are free to complete. You will be asked a series of questions about your accreditation, and on completion of the short survey, you will be asked to either upload a copy of your old certificate or download and complete a TFA Code of Ethics form, available here.
-
please only complete one (the highest) RPL/RCC module per type of accreditation (ie if you are a L3 Referee, complete the Level 3 RPL/RCC only).
-
Answer each question to the best of your ability; don’t stress if you can’t remember all the details regarding your course or previous accreditation.
